The Magic Pill
Sunday 11 October 2020Unplugged!
Thursday 22 October 2020The morning begins with the alarm – you roll out of bed and rub the sleep from your eyes, stumbling over to the bedside table to bring the awful screeching to a halt.
The first victory.
You haul yourself to the kitchen, take a swig of water and begin to prepare your first cup of coffee. The glorious golden liquid trickles from the machine as you watch, hypnotised by the process.
Your energy begins to rise, along with the caffeine lining your glass.
As you sip your morning espresso, you pull out your pair of Reebok Nano X’s, lacing them up. They are on now – you are committed.
After relishing the last sip of coffee, you head outside; the cool breeze slaps you across the face. You have thoughts of crawling back under the covers – it would be comfortable and warm. It would be easy.
But now you are determined; you continue your unwavering march towards the car.
You jab your key into the ignition, and jam it to the left – the engine roars to life, as you too feel a surge of energy as the vehicle vibrates.
Overhead, the dim streetlights illuminate the road as the thoughts that plagued you earlier, and the temptation to crawl back under the warm blankets, slowly recede.
Your body acknowledges this, and your heart begins to pump blood with intent, as the caffeine takes effect. Just in time.
You are preparing for what is to come.
The short stroll from the car to the finish line proves the sweetest. You know that regardless of what happens now, you have been victorious.
The morning is a blur as you reflect on these numerous victories since silencing the alarm. It is all generated momentum – one victory fuelling the next.
You step foot into the gym, as your eyes scan the whiteboard, analysing the workout, and yet it does not matter now. What matters is that you are here.
For showing up is the hardest thing…
You know that if you can do that, you have already won.
The final victory.
