CrossFit® is a strength and conditioning program that consists of constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity.

Each workout contains different exercises in as many different combinations over as many different time domains as creativity will allow. It is designed to develop abilities across ALL aspects of fitness with the aim of preparing athletes of all ages and abilities for the ‘unknown and unknowable’. In other words, CrossFit® prepares people to perform well at any, and every task imaginable.

CrossFit trains it’s athletes in all 10 general physical skills widely recognized by exercise physiologists;

Cardiovascular/respiratory endurance Stamina Strength Flexibility Power Coordination Agility Balance Accuracy

To be fit by CrossFit®’s standard, you need to have a high level of ability in all 10 of these Physical Skills across any modality at any time.

This differs from the opinion of the media and general public, who typically hold endurance athletes as exemplars of fitness. While a champion triathlete is no doubt very good at what they do, it would be against the CrossFit® definition to refer to them as ‘fit’ let alone the ‘fittest on earth’. This is because they demonstrate amazing ability in the cardiovascular/respiratory endurance skill, but they would get crushed in any of the other general physical skills (e.g. an average weightlifter would crush a triathlete in the strength and power categories). In a nutshell, the CrossFit program is dedicated to creating the ultimate all-rounder.
