The Grind
Friday 25 December 2020Content.
It just sounds lazy doesn’t it?
When you are just “content” with something, one may assume that it’s because you are too lazy to change.
Makes sense…
The word can also entail a degree of complacency.
“I’m content just the way things are” you might say. The other side of the story tells that things are falling to pieces all around you because you refuse to change.
But really, being content isn’t any of these things.
Rather, it is something of the highset calibre to strive towards.
Because being content isn’t lazy or complacent.
It’s the state you reach when you know you have worked incredibly hard and can look back, satisfied on the product you have produced.
It’s the feeling you get after a long day at work knowing you put your best foot forward.
It’s the post workout protein shake after nailing some heavy deadlifts.
To be content, you have to earn it.
If you haven’t done the work, then you are not content. That’s ignorance, and requires a massive reality check.
And even then, after the work is complete, being content is much easier said than done.
If you are anything like the rest of us, we are wired to look for the next thing; the next milestone, PB, gadget, recovery protocol, or training program.
We barely acknowledge ourselves for what we have achieved thus far.
This is especially important this year; you’ve been through a hell of a lot and worked hard to be where you are today.
So give yourself a very contented pat on the back.
You deserve it.
